In Taoism, Black represents Yin(female, darkness, pacifism). White represents Yang(male, light, aggression). Both aren't necessarily "good nor evil", however, the shorthand is Yin "good" yang "evil". As previously stated, both aren't necessarily "good nor evil", since the propensity for both "good and evil" are still latent in both Yin and Yang, hence the smaller dots of both within.
