You equip it, press Y and up at the same time over a pit, and reel it in when you see a “!” by pressing Y and up again. You can catch stuff that will heal you, harm you, or give you money. You can even catch a troupple who sell you a magic potion if you have an empty chalice (chalices can be purchased by the troupple associates in the village and Armor Outpost)
