Ricken really serves the FE archetype of the 'Wind Magic user really early in the game' quite well, like Soren or Merrick from FE 9 and 1/11/12. I like him, though they could have brought back the Magic Trinity from the GBA games. (Nothing wrong with the use of magic in this game, but it'd be nice if one countered the other like in the weapon triangle.)
