I've also recently discovered that my earbuds with a built-in mic are compatible with this game. My sister plugged them in and it showed the mic icon which surprised me a lot. We then said hello and someone responded, which was nice because I don't need to buy a headset or whatever. I don't know, but maybe you have voice chat disabled within the game's settings?
