When in doubt, shield up (Wooden if he throws ballots of electricity your way). It will cause him to recoil if he tries to rush you, which leaves him open to having his shield broken by your weapon which leaves him further open. Or get a good read on his Rush and dodge at the right time for a Flurry Rush.
