That's what I thought at first, except I've slain more Lynels at this point, but I haven't seen a gold one yet. Whereas I've barely fought any lizalfos. And I haven't freed any of the Divine Beasts, so I can do the boss rush at Hyrule Castle. So I'm not sure what causes the gold enemies to appear.
