There's a way to kill it before it fights back. Wear Majora's Mask or a Lynel Mask. Use level 3 attack buffs. Use your strongest 2 handed weapon and get close to the Lynel. Spin your weapon around and around. This can kill a Red Lynel before it can fight back. I'm not sure if this works for stronger Lynels.
