Yuri on Ice isn't labelled shonen ai. Neither is No.6. I don't think Sailor Moon nor any other anime actually tackled hardships. Keijo has lesbians but isn't labelled shoujo ai. Wandering Son did. And I do love it. It is about trans characters and taken seriously. New York, New York is a very well done manga which tackled hardships.
