Most likely because of the developers lack of experience setting up jpg and keeping file size smaller etc, pure jpg still requires settings such as compression, encoding and chroma 1x1 pixel enhances, 1x2 or more and you get artifacts in the image. But yeah to not have this option which a lot of other software especially ones you can have a lot of fun with lack a decent save output, which sucks.:)
