You have to play the premier contests in each catagory first, then continue going into the contests. Soon after you play a couple times, Avery will come to your shop and give you a request. You must say yes! Once you finish the request, Avery will ask you if you want to enter the Elite Contest. Say yes to that too! After you complete it in each catagory, play some more of that contest.
