Ended up having to fight the father and some of his men,but in the end,he begrudgingly accepted him as a son-in-law and has decided to train him to fight like a Prone male. Guess they wanted to avoid making like a dating sim or recreating the whole Melia-Shulk-Fiora love triangle.
