@Messica: You are right. Although you mentioned some good examples I find that with some of the extreme violence in those are still a bit stylized to fit within a R rating, while this film just looked plain nasty, imo. But maybe they just used a good combination of prosthetics and cgi. The damage the shotgun did there was pretty realistic. No PG-13 stuff there "^^.
