Anyone is free to do the same thing. Redrawing old characters is a fun and interesting challenge, and allows you to compare both drawings to show yourself how much you changed and improved. I highly encourage giving it a shot. Alternatively, you'll be drawing those that never got to be drawn! You might even appreciate and reuse the character again? Who knows.
