what i said previously was about GV's true ending. as for Copen's true ending, i have no problems with it. it's harsh, but it makes sense. him letting his stubbornness and prejudice decide for him about leaving his family makes sense for his character. if he decided to continue living with Mytil, that would have made him a hypocrite given everything he stood for.
