Sonic Boom is a spin-off. It's own thing. Kind of like how the Sonic comics are their own thing. One may look at it as an alternate universe. It doesn't affect the main series, but it's something that's going on. I do find it rather amusing that people only remember it's a spin-off when it's convenient for them. lol
