I don't think online functions for Wii U would be terminated so quickly, The Wii services where shut down because Nintendo outsourced the connect 24 service, it's because the company went bnkrupt that Wii services abrubtly closed, but you can still surf the web on Wii and view netflix and Amazon video. Nintendo's network is more streamlined , there's no reason to close servers which need little -
