I don't know how it happened either, but I know that the connection that you both have regarding Death is what's keeping both of you alive for this long. Without each other....I don't know if you'd be able to live for this long in those bodies of yours. Memories of happier times probably kept Doc alive for that long anyway and it's nice that you're able to help him...even if it is for shady stuff.
