Hm, it does look a bit like a 7. I guess they were expecting you to trace the numbers with the memo pad or something. Don't worry too much. No puzzle game can be perfect. Might I ask why you chose this as your first Layton game? It's a bit of an awkward place to start...you might know what I mean if you've already finished.
