If you've got the camera function on your slate already you can snap a photo of (for example) knight's broad sword and save it in the compendium. Select whatever items/weapons/monsters/etc you have in the compendium and you can set it to detect stuff just like it does with the shrines! It's a good way to keep weapons stocked...
