Getting a Rare Breed in the first place is just random. Normally a seed's possible outcomes are some combination of the "parent" flowers' properties, but sometimes they'll have a 3rd possibility, which will be a breed other than the 2 parents. Or sometimes you'll get a shiny seed that's guaranteed to be a different breed. Anyway, you'll need to grow a different Rare Breed in each game…
