I know how to stop it. Find out what triggered the nightmare to start and find out the end of the dream. Or solve the end of the nightmare mid-dream. This happens to me a lot and I wake up almost screaming because they get worse but once you solve why you are having the dream and overcome it you wil go back to happy dreams.
