By sales, recognition & just overall brand awareness, without a doubt Mario. Personal favorite....that's a tough decision between Zelda or Metroid...but it's Zelda (my 1&2 spot of favorite games of all time are held by Zelda games) Honorable mentions: Phantasy Star, Monster Hunter, Castlevania & brace yourselves.....The Conduit!
