Well I fill the base color, then I use the brush tool(usually) on the lowest two opacitites to add the shading and highlights. Then I use the blend stick on the same opacities to smooth it out where it needs to be smoothed. Sometimes there are parts where I find it better to use the spray paint instead of the paint brush, so sometimes is best to play around. there's an undo button for a reason.
