The USB cable is actually a cable hub & its so you can plug in the PS4 controller you don't use in for authentication purposes. Mine just sits on the shelf next to the PS4 then while I use whatever. Chords do come into play if you want to use a mic though....you have to string one from the PS4 or the better option just use wireless headphones & go off of the second USB port
