They are what one considers their favorite female character. For example: A low tier waifu would be a steriotypical anime girl (moe), they're everywhere and a dime a dosen. Mid tier are the cool ones like Laura Croft or Samus. High tier have trancended what it means to truely be a waifu like the Monalisa, the Statue of Liberty or Shrek.
