I speculate that the growing market of pre-owned games, consoles, and accessories has given incentive for companies to start charging a little more and targeting consumers willing to spend more. Each company is also branching out into other areas to produce more product and make more money (VR, AR, amiibo, specialty controllers, "pro" consoles"), possibly to offset shrinking profit margins.
