The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Trigun, Read or Die (both the OVA and series, if you can find them), Samurai Champloo, Azumanga Daioh, Serial Experiments Lain (I loved it, but I can easily understand why someone might hate it), Madoka Magica, and K-On! are all ones I'd recommend.
