On the highest floor of Dark Palace there's a chest in the center which contains the ore. Place a bomb near the southern switch, then make a run to the wall on the platform and merge the wall before the bomb explodes. If done right you end up in a small room with a big chest. You can go cheap with magic by just stand on the right of the flippable wall, and exit by using a hookshot near the wall.
