I know how to go to other zones than just starting from Emerald Hill. You go to options at the Title screen, press 19,65,9 and 17. When you here the Ring chime, go back to the title screen, press and hold the Sega A button then select 1 Player while doing it, then there you go, all then zones. (including Special stage)
